| Welcome |
The
casual observer may not notice the abundance of outdoor
art across the Niagara region. With the exception of Welland’s
giant murals, outdoor art is seldom promoted or rarely
celebrated. This is unfortunate because murals, statues
and sculptures convey many messages, exciting imagery
and provoke thought and conversation amongst those viewing
the works.
Niagara has an eclectic assembly of outdoor sculptures,
fountains, objects and paintings. It is a museum with
no walls, no fees and no posted hours. Accessible to everyone,
every day, the art enriches quality of life, provides
a sense of place and adds vitality to the landscape. The
Outdoor Art In Niagara compilation is an attempt to showcase
the variety of work in public spaces throughout the peninsula.
While some pieces are widely acclaimed and others obscure,
collectively they stand as testament to the scope and
diversity of the human imagination.
